Polestar Teases ‘Largest Model Offensive In History’ But The Halo Car Is Delayed

‘The focus right now is getting the Polestar 4 variant, Polestar 2 successor and Polestar 7 completed and on the market. After that, we can turn to Polestar 6. So, by that logic, not before 2028.’

When news first broke that Polestar would sell the 6, a $200,000 sticker price also surfaced, making it the company’s most expensive car ever. As a refresher, the plug-in hybrid Polestar 1 coupe launched in the United States for the 2021 model year at $156,500. Initially, the company said it would build just 500 roadsters, but later clarified it would increase production if demand proved strong enough to sustain it.

Since the 6’s launch remains at least a couple of years away, Polestar isn’t releasing any technical specifications. The 2+2 concept with a retractable roof backed up that striking design with impressive figures: 884 horsepower and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) from a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. It sprinted from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.2 seconds and topped out at an electronically limited 155 mph (250 km/h).

Motor1’s Take: The Polestar 6 is increasingly starting to feel like a Tesla Roadster redux in terms of product delays. Even in a best-case scenario, a 2028 launch would come six years after the concept’s debut. It could be worse, though, considering the second-generation Roadster premiered in 2017 and still hasn’t reached production.

Every brand needs a halo model, and the 6 would fit that role perfectly for Polestar. Although it would inevitably be a low-volume product, the stunning convertible could do wonders for brand awareness and create a clearer distinction between Polestar and Volvo.
