Tesla has filed two new logo trademarks in the United States for the long-awaited Roadster. One depicts an updated wordmark, while the other shows a stylized silhouette of the car. Tesla filed both on February 3, 2026.
Tesla first teased a new Roadster over eight years ago in November 2017 in a surprise reveal alongside the company’s electric semi. At the time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed the car would be available in 2020 with a $200,000 starting price, have a top speed of over 250 miles per hour, and could sprint from zero to 100 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds.

In typical Tesla fashion, the automaker missed that deadline and several other subsequent ones in the years that followed. We hadn’t heard much about the upcoming Roadster since. These new trademark filings are the best indication that the Roadster might soon debut. Hopefully.
Tesla noted in its recent earnings report that it “Preparations continue in North America for the… production of the next-generation Roadster.” Musk said late last year that the automaker will hold a Roadster 2 demo event on April 1, with production starting 12-18 months after that.
But, Musk has made this promise before.
Motor1’s Take: It could very well be a decade between the time Tesla first showed off the new Roadster and when it actually hits the streets. The new trademark filings should be indicators that the long-awaited sports car is nearing its launch, but Tesla isn’t known for its timeliness, and the April 1 demo gives Musk the perfect out if the car isn’t ready.
