The Genesis G70 Might Be On the Chopping Block

From the moment it debuted, the Genesis G70 earned the reputation of being a sneaky good sports sedan. With a powerful V-6 and a poised chassis, the G70 could easily go toe-to-toe with alternatives from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Hell, it even had a manual transmission for a short time.

Sadly, though, the G70 may not be around for much longer. A new report from Automotive News suggests that the G70 could be on the way out. With production currently scheduled through 2027, the report suggests that Genesis has no plans to offer a second-generation G70. Not just for the US, either—the G70 may be discontinued globally.

This new report coincides with a story from August 2023, in which Korea’s JoongAng Daily suggested that Genesis would kill off the G70 after just one generation. A separate report from April stated that Genesis wanted to move upmarket. Genesis, though, in a statement to Motor1, says that it currently has no plans to discontinue the G70. A company spokesperson told us:

‘We have no plans to discontinue G70 at this time. Genesis introduced the newly enhanced G70 sport sedan early last year, and the latest 2026 models are currently available at US retailers. G70 remains our third-highest selling model in the United States, representing nearly one in six Genesis sales, and we will continue to offer models that meet the needs of US consumers.’

The G70 debuted in the US for the 2019 model year and received a significant update in 2022, adding the automaker’s signature “Two Lines” design language to the exterior and some updates to the cabin. Genesis updated the G70 again in 2024 with a new turbocharged four-cylinder base engine making 300 horsepower and standard Brembo brakes.

As mentioned, the G70 sedan is currently the automaker’s third-best-selling vehicle in the US, just behind the GV70 and GV80 SUVs. Genesis sold 12,258 G70 models last year compared to 26,944 GV70s and 22,843 GV80s. So far in 2025, Genesis has only sold 5,136 G70 models.

We’ll still have to wait and see if the G70 does indeed disappear after 2027. For now, Genesis offers the G70 for the 2026 model year with a base price of $44,245 with destination for the 2.5T rear-wheel-drive model, with the 3.3T V-6 trim starting at $54,395.
