Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition packs aero and brake enhancements

Hyundai on Friday used the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon to showcase a special edition of the Ioniq 5 N with additional performance upgrades.

Called the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition, it’s scheduled to launch in Japan and South Korea later this year. Hyundai said it’s evaluating other potential markets, so importation to the U.S. hasn’t been ruled out.

The DK Edition gets its name from “Drift King,” which, before it was the moniker of a certain “Fast and Furious” villain, was the nickname of Japanese racing driver Keiichi Tsuchiya, who collaborated on development of this special edition.

The Drift King wasn’t the only Japanese influence on this Korean performance electric crossover. The DK Edition also features performance parts from leading Japanese firm Autobacs Seven, including 21-inch forged wheels, 6-piston monoblock brake calipers, lowering springs, and model-specific aerodynamic elements highlighted by an even more pronounced rear spoiler. Hyundai said it’s considering bringing these parts to market as a package, so customers may not have to buy the DK Edition to get them.

Hyundai said the DK Edition upgrades enhance stability, handling, and braking power, but the powertrain remains untouched. The Ioniq 5 N uses dual motors to send 601 hp to all four wheels (a boost function allows 641 hp in short bursts). That gets the standard car from 0-60 mph in a Hyundai-estimated 3.3 seconds, but it’s unclear if any of the changes made to the DK Edition affect that.

We just named the Ioniq 5 N Motor Authority Best Car To Buy 2025 because, out of our six candidates, it was the most fun to drive. The DK Edition does somewhat address the issue of weight that’s on our wishlist of potential improvements with its lightweight wheels, but as a flashier (and likely more expensive) special edition, it generally goes in the opposite direction we would recommend to make this great car even better. However, we suspect these changes will make it even more fun.
