Mazda charges into 2025 with a growing lineup of crossover SUVs and an expansion of its plug-in hybrid powertrain option as well as its first modern hybrid offering.
Without an electric car in its small but robust lineup consisting of one roadster, one sedan, one hatchback, and five crossover SUVs, Mazda has finally embraced electrification to meet fuel economy standards. It now sells two plug-in hybrid models and one conventional hybrid.
The new CX-70 midsize crossover SUV shares most everything with the CX-90 three-row crossover SUV, including dimensions, powertrains, and most features, but the CX-70 aims for a sportier take on the slightly heavier CX-90. It swaps out the CX-90’s third row for greater cargo space. Both models can be had with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The bigger news is the arrival of the 2025 CX-50 hybrid option sourced from Toyota and mechanically the same as the RAV4. It costs about $2,300 more than a similarly equipped CX-50 gas model, but it gets an estimated 38 mpg combined.
Every model except the MX-5 Miata roadster comes standard with all-wheel drive, and Mazda loads its cars with standard safety equipment.
Here’s what’s new and what’s not for Mazda in 2025.

2025 Mazda CX-50
The compact crossover and eventual replacement for the smaller but bestselling CX-5 now comes with a hybrid powertrain borrowed from the Toyota RAV4. Every CX-50 comes with the typical mid-cycle freshening with new ends, new wheel options, and an optional red leather interior. The gas model carries over.

2025 Mazda CX-70
Mazda’s newest model is not so new. Not only did the return of Mazda’s midsize crossover run around from 2007-2012 as the CX-7, the reimagined CX-70 is a five-seat version of the three-row CX-90: Same body, same dimensions, same powertrain offerings, similar feature set. It has a roomier cargo area and more versatile second-row seats that slide for and aft for nearly 40 inches of legroom, and they split 60:40 to fold flat for even more space. Mazda refined the plug-in hybrid powertrain with a software update that smoothens the balance between motor and engine propulsion. We found it much improved in our first drive review of the 2025 CX-70.
