KOLKATA: Trinamool’s Krishnanagar candidate Mahua Moitra filed a complaint with Election Commission on Sunday, alleging that the CBI raids on her home and election offices after the model code of conduct kicked in were nothing but an attempt to “throttle” her campaign. She urged EC to issue or create guidelines for central agencies till the model code of conduct remains in force, barring them from “coercive action” against candidates and other political leaders.
She said the CBI search of her home yielded nothing, proving it was a smear campaign to benefit her political opponent. Such a ploy, she said, runs contrary to EC’s objective of providing a “level-playing field” to all political parties. She said she understood that central agencies were required to investigate, but their “timing and methodology” suggest they are “dancing to the tune of political dicta”.
