Stellantis is recalling 31,676 RAM pickup trucks because the side mirror glass may fall off, the NHTSA disclosed Monday.
The recall involves 2020-2023 Ram 1500 Classic trucks. The Classic refers to the previous-generation Ram 1500 that the brand continued to sell alongside a redesigned version that debuted for the 2019 model year. Both versions have since been superseded by the updated 2025 Ram 1500, which combines new tech and a new twin-turbo V-6 engine with the outgoing model’s underpinnings.
Classic models with heated trailer tow side mirrors may have driver-side glass that could detach, according to the NHTSA. That’s a fairly straightforward conflict with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, which requires vehicles to have driver-side exterior rearview mirrors. Lack of rear visibility can increase the risk of a crash, the NHTSA notes.
Stellantis estimates that 5% of the recalled vehicles have this defect, which is due to the glass not being properly attached to a backing plate during vehicle assembly. Vehicles not included in the recall have a similar mirror-assembly design, but Stellantis does not suspect that their exterior mirrors were assembled incorrectly.
Dealers will replace the mirror glass free of charge. Stellantis will also reimburse any customers who already had this work performed at their own expense before the recall was announced. Those customers can submit a receipt or other proof of payment to the automaker for reimbursement.
