Innings Sri Lanka 235 (Liyanage 101*, Asalanka 37, Taskin 3-42, Mehidy 2-28) vs Bangladesh
Liyanage was impressive with his strokeplay even with wickets falling all around him. He struck 11 fours and two sixes during his 102-ball knock, one over long-on and the other swivelled off Shoriful Islam over fine-leg.
Despite bowling well, Bangladesh spent a chaotic time in Chattogram. Five fielders got injured with Mustafizur and substitute Jaker Ali stretchered out of the ground. Mushfiqur Rahim was the first to get hurt when a Taskin delivery struck his left hand. Anamul Haque left the field for a while with a finger injury before Mustafizur pulled up at the start of his last over – the 48th of the innings. Sarkar hurt his knee shortly after trying to stop a boundary before Anamul and Jaker collided around the cover-point region in the last over while going for a catch.
Sri Lanka started the day poorly when their in-form opener Nissanka fell lbw to Taskin nine balls into the innings. Nissanka missed an inswinger from Taskin and was struck slightly higher on the knee roll, but did not opt for a review. Replays later confirmed that the ball would have missed leg stump had he taken the review. Fernando followed Nissanka into the change room in the fourth over when he edged Taskin behind.
Mustafizur, who replaced the injured Tanzim Hasan Sakib in this game, removed Sadeera Samarawickrama with his first ball in the game. It was the away seam movement that did Samarawickrama in as he edged behind to Mushfiqur. Sri Lanka then slipped to 74 for 4 in the 18th over when Rishad Hossain got rid of Kusal Mendis with an innocuous leg-break that Mendis could only edge behind.
Charith Asalanka added 43 runs for the fifth wicket with Liyanage as they looked to resurrect the Sri Lanka batting. Asalanka struck five fours in his 37 but fell to Mustafizur in the 25th over. Bangladesh kept chipping away through Mehidy Hasan Miraz who snared Dunith Wellalage and Wanindu Hasaranga to have the visitors seven down in the 35th over.
Sri Lanka then resisted through the Liyanage-Theekshana stand. The pair importantly batted out 13 overs that stretched the visitors’ innings. It broke in the 48th over when Theekshana got out to Sarkar, who had come in to complete Mustafizur’s over.
Then came the Pramod Madushan wicket when Anamul caught his slice at point, but not before colliding with substitute Jaker. Lahiru Kumara was run out next ball.
