Frances Bean Cobain, the 31-year-old daughter of iconic rock legends Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, married professional skateboarder Riley Hawk, the son of skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, earlier this month.
The high-profile duo exchanged vows on Oct. 7 in a private ceremony in Los Angeles, according to TMZ. It was revealed that the couple had obtained their marriage license in San Diego the month before their nuptials. In a touching twist, Frances Bean’s godfather and R.E.M. frontman, Michael Stipe, reportedly officiated the ceremony, adding a sentimental touch to their special day.
While the newlyweds have not made any official statements about their wedding, ET has reached out for comment.
Frances and Riley’s romance became public knowledge in early 2021, but they kept their relationship relatively private. It wasn’t until February 2022 that Frances shared their relationship with the world via Instagram.
After a year-long hiatus from the social media app, Frances posted a series of images, including a PDA-filled picture of herself and Riley. In her post, she wrote, “I wanted to share a few moments that were captured / created this past year that brought me a great amount of joy.” It was evident that Frances was living “more in the present moment” than ever before. Prior to her marriage to Riley, Frances was married to musician Isaiah Silva from 2014 to 2017.
The end of Frances’ marriage to Silva was followed by a protracted court battle over one of her late father Kurt Cobain’s iconic guitars. Ultimately, Silva obtained possession of the guitar and auctioned it for a staggering $6.01 million.
Riley’s union with Frances marks a significant milestone in his personal life, as this marriage is his first. The skater has been carving his own path in the world of professional skateboarding, maintaining a distinct identity apart from his father’s legendary status.
