Rebecca Loos, the woman at the center of a 2004 scandal involving alleged infidelity with David Beckham, has spoken out about her portrayal in the soccer star’s recent documentary, Beckham. Accusing the former soccer star of casting her as a “liar” and himself as “the victim,” Loos voiced her concerns in an interview with the Mail on Sunday.

The Beckham series, featuring David and Victoria Beckham, revisits the allegations that David had an affair with Rebecca in 2003, a controversy that had rocked the celebrity world at the time. In the documentary, the couple openly discussed the challenges they faced in their marriage following Rebecca’s claims.

In the series, David candidly expressed, “Erm… there were some horrible stories that were difficult to, erm, deal with. It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage.” Victoria added, “It was the hardest period because it felt like the world was against us.”

However, Rebecca, now living in Norway with her husband and two children, felt aggrieved by the way David characterized their past in the documentary. She asserted, “He can say whatever he likes, of course, and I understand he has an image to preserve, but he is portraying himself as the victim and he’s making me look like a liar – like I’ve made up these stories.”

Rebecca went on to criticize David for insinuating in the documentary that she was responsible for Victoria’s suffering during that difficult period. She said, “The worst bit for me is that he says he didn’t like seeing his wife suffer. That bothered me. He could have simply said that this was a tough time and I don’t want to talk about it. If you don’t want to take responsibility for things because of your family and your children, that’s absolutely fine. And if he had just said it was a tough time for us and moved on, I wouldn’t be here today. But he specifically made it look like… my fault, that he had nothing to do with this.”

Rebecca also criticized David for rekindling the allegations of their affair in the public eye through the documentary. She stated, “So many people put all this behind them. And he’s dragged it back up again in a way that is affecting my reputation.”

In 2004, Rebecca claimed to have had an affair with David Beckham in 2003 while she was working as his assistant and translator when he moved to Spain to play for Real Madrid. Her story made headlines when it was published by the now-defunct News of the World and reported by Sky News. In those interviews, she described David as an “amazing lover” and asserted that they began their affair while on a night out in Madrid together.

In response to her allegations, David vehemently denied any wrongdoing, calling her claims “ludicrous” and emphasizing that he was “happily married.” He released a statement at the time that read, “During the past few months, I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life. The simple truth is that I am very happily married. I have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change these facts.”

After the release of the docuseries, Rebecca posted a photo on Instagram of herself practicing yoga.

A commenter wrote, “Some of the comments on here are disgusting!!! 😢 Stay strong 💪 ❤️ You have a beautiful life with your gorgeous family which unlike others doesn’t have to fill the gaps by getting Netflix involved!!! Xx”

Rebecca replied to the comment, writing, “@lissssss_ssssa Thank you 🙏🏼 am taking in the nasty comments with as much humour as I can ❤️.”

Beckham is available now on Netflix.
