• Mazda lowered the price of the CX-5 by $685 for 2025
  • The price changes comes with the return for the base CX-5 S model
  • The 2025 Mazda CX-5 arrives in dealerships later this summer

The 2025 Mazda CX-5 compact crossover will have a base price of $29,990 when it reaches U.S. dealerships later this summer, Mazda confirmed Tuesday in a press release.

The starting price is $685 lower than the 2024 model, which saw a $2,600 price hike from 2023 due to the deletion of the CX-5 S base trim from the lineup. The CX-5 S is back for 2025, but it hasn’t fully undone that price increase. The destination fee is also $45 higher, at $1,420.

Aside from the return of the CX-5 S base model, Mazda made some equipment changes to individual trim levels and removed the S Premium grade. That leaves S Select, S Preferred, S Carbon Edition, S Premium Plus, Carbon Turbo, Turbo Premium, and Turbo Signature trim levels.

Unlike the 2025 Mazda CX-50, which gets a new Toyota-sourced hybrid powertrain, the CX-5’s powertrains carry over for the new model year. A naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter line-4 making 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque is standard equipment while an optional 2.5-liter turbo-4 producing 227 hp and 310 lb-ft (256 hp and 320 lb-ft with 93 octane fuel). All-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission are standard with both engines.

Fuel economy is expected to be unchanged at a maximum 28 mpg combined (26 mpg city, 30 mpg highway) for non-turbo models, which feature an engine stop/start system and cylinder deactivation.

Standard driver-assist features include blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist.

Standard convenience features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a four-speaker audio system, dual front USB-C ports, and reclining rear seats. Cloth upholstery is standard on the base CX-5 S.

The $34,020 S Carbon Edition ($495 more than last year’s model) features styling enhancements like a Polymetal Gray paint option, 19-inch black alloy wheels, and the option of black leather upholstery with red stitching or red leather. It also includes a 10-speaker audio system, and adds wireless phone charging for 2025.

The $36,620 S Premium Plus costs $1,255 less than last year’s model, but remains the highest trim level with the naturally-aspirated engine. For 2025, it adds a 360-degree camera system and front and rear parking sensors alongside a drive-mode selector, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and exterior mirrors, and built-in navigation.
