The end of Infiniti’s sedan lineup is complete with the discontinuation of the Infiniti Q50 sedan. That leaves only four—some might argue three—crossover SUVs in its 2025 lineup released Wednesday. Nissan’s luxury brand continues to constrict, despite ambitious plans that have yet to materialize. 

The 2024 Infiniti Q50 compact sedan was 10 years old and in need of a tech update to compete with the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Genesis G70, and Cadillac CT4. Though the 300-hp twin-turbo V-6 engine continued to charm, and the 400-hp Red Sport edition reminded drivers of the quality sedans from Infiniti’s past. The dated interior and aging chassis limited its upside, however, earning it a relatively low TCC Rating of 5.2 out of 10.

As Infiniti enters its 35th anniversary in the U.S., it will only be a crossover SUV brand consisting of just three core models, for now. That’s a significant decrease from the eight models it sold a decade ago, split evenly between sedans and SUVs. Infiniti has invested plenty in its SUV lineup in the past few years.

The 2025 Infiniti QX80 full-size SUV was redesigned for the first time in more than a decade to better compete with the Lincoln Navigator and Lexus LX 600, among other truck-based luxury SUVs. 

Its bestselling model, the Infiniti QX60 three-row crossover, was redesigned in 2022 with a luxurious interior, spacious cabin, and modern technology, though high-end versions of the related Nissan Pathfinder erode its luxury proposition. 

The QX50 crossover and related QX55 with a sloped roof and sportier coupe-like body style are due for a redesign to stand out in the cutthroat crossover class. 

Last year, Infiniti announced a brand reboot that included a coupe-like take on the QX60 with the QX65, and teased both an electric crossover and electric sedan.

It’s clear Infiniti needs new product. Sales of Infiniti vehicles are down 13% in the first half of 2024 compared to the first half of 2023. The Q50 followed a similar trajectory, with sales of 2,839 models in the first half of the year marking an 11% decline from last year.

With only 28,027 models sold this year, Infiniti has been outsold by Genesis and Porsche. Electric startup Rivian has nearly sold as many models as Infiniti.

It’s still possible to buy a new 2024 Infiniti Q50, with a starting price of $44,200, including destination.
