Türkiye, a premier global destination, has experienced a remarkable surge in tourism from India. Between January and May 2024, Türkiye welcomed 126,000 Indian visitors, a 34 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth is particularly notable against the backdrop of 2023, when Türkiye hosted a total of 274,000 Indian tourists for the entire year. The significant rise in Indian tourists highlights Türkiye’s enduring appeal and its strategic efforts to attract more visitors from India.

Indian tourists are increasingly drawn to Türkiye’s diverse tourism experiences. Many are exploring the country as Free Independent Travellers (FITs), enjoying its rich cultural heritage, shopping, and dining experiences. Key destinations like Istanbul, known for its historical landmarks, vibrant culture, and unique gastronomic experiences, continue to be top choices.

Cappadocia, famous for its distinctive landscapes and hot air balloon rides, has also seen a surge in Indian visitors. Coastal regions such as Antalya and Bodrum, renowned for their stunning beaches and luxury resorts, are popular for unique wedding ceremonies, honeymoons, luxurious celebrations, and events. Other destinations like Pamukkale, İzmir, and Alaçatı, celebrated for their natural beauty and historical sites, are also attracting significant numbers of tourists.

Taiwan Tourism reinvigorates Indian market with renewed focus on MICE

The Taiwan Tourism Administration hopes that this year’s visitor numbers from India are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels. It is also expected that direct flights between the two regions will resume soon, making travel between Taiwan and India more convenient, comfortable, and economical. To attract Indian tourists, TTA has introduced specific incentives and initiatives.

This impressive growth can be attributed to active promotion and PR activities in India, along with successful collaborations with Indian stakeholders, including travel agents, corporates, and wedding planners. Earlier this year, Türkiye Tourism concluded a successful six-city India Roadshow in collaboration with the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI). This initiative aimed to strengthen ties between the Indian travel trade and Turkish tourism, fostering collaboration and opening new horizons.Looking ahead, Türkiye continues to work closely with Indian travel agents, with initiatives like the OTOAI (Outbound Tour Operators Association of India) mega fam tour playing a significant role in promoting tourism. The recent trip from June 30 to July 6, 2024, is dedicated to showcasing Türkiye’s myriad attractions to Indian travel agents. A total of 40 OTOAI members from across India participated in this exciting endeavor, representing diverse regions and tourism interests.

The country’s rich cultural offerings, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities continue to captivate Indian tourists, promising even more growth in the future.
