BHOPAL: Three days after the assembly election results, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a show of strength in Chhindwara – launching ‘Mission 29’, to win all the Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh in 2024 – even as all CM aspirants of the state were in Delhi.
While the suspense continues on who would be CM, Chouhan, who on Tuesday said that he wasn’t in the CM race, held a BJP workers’ meeting in Chhindwara, where he said that he had campaigned throughout the state and won the party a massive victory.BJP lost all seven seats in Chhindwara despite sweeping the rest of the state.
Chouhan’s statement came even when the BJP central leadership was discussing names for the next chief minister of the state.
Those in the race – including Narendra Singh Tomar and Prahlad Singh Patel – met BJP national president JP Nadda on Wednesday morning. There was also a photo session with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the evening.
Nadda later met party national general secretaries to discuss the CM names. Another CM aspirant, Kailash Vijayvargiya, was present at the meeting.
BJP secured highest ever vote%, says CM
In Chhindwara, Chouhan said: “I campaigned through the state and got 163 seats to form the government. BJP secured 48.6% votes, which is the highest ever. Even when we won 173 seats (in 2003 under Uma Bharti), the vote share was 42%. You (party workers) have done a miracle.”
“This victory has been given by Ladli Behnas,” he said
Chouhan declared that no post is bigger than being a brother. The chief minister, who is popularly known as Mama (maternal uncle), is also being called ‘brother’ because of the Ladli Behna Yojana – a masterstroke of a scheme that gives 1.32 crore women a monthly allowance of Rs 1,250.
“I am a brother. What is a chief minister? Before this post (of a brother), all other posts of the world are useless. I am so fortunate to have so many sisters. And am Mama of so many nephews and nieces,” Chouhan said in Chhindwara, adding: “No post is bigger than this for me. Even the throne of heaven is of no use. I tell the people of Madhya Pradesh that so long as I breathe, I will serve you. I always say that Madhya Pradesh is my temple and the people living here are my God and the priest is Shivraj Singh Chouhan.” The Lok Sabha elections may be five months away, but Chouhan gave the war cry: “Today, we launch Mission 29. There are 29 Lok Sabha Seats in the state and we will work night and day to win them all.”
Chouhan gave the ‘Shivraj guarantee’ of development of Chhindwara. “I want to tell BJP workers in all seven assembly constituencies not to be disappointed. We cannot leave Chhindwara, be it Sausar, Junnardeo, Parasia, Chousar, Amarwara or Pandorna. I will stand by you always, the entire BJP is with you,” he said.
“I told Bunty Sahu (BJP candidate from Chhindwara against PCC chief Kamal Nath) that It is because of BJP workers that Kamal Nath could not campaign in other parts of the state. My sisters and brothers of Chhindwara tied him to the district. Mama kept campaigning through the state while Dadaji (Nath) was stuck in Chhindwara,” Chouhan said.
Union home minister Amit Shah addressed two campaign meets here – in Chhindwara city to kickstart BJP campaign and another in Junnardeo.
